Kate was keeping fit just keeping up with her job as a PE teacher in Perth when she took the advice of her cousin and tried Triathlon and found she loved it. Competing in the Olympic distance, her coach then convinced her to go for Ironman where she discovered her strength lay in the long distance event.
Qualifying for Hawaii Ironman in 2005 she placed 3rd in her age group (25-29) at the World Champs. Subsequently she took the decision to race professionally as a Triathlete and Ironman.
Her win in 2008 at the Port of Tauranga (NZ) Half Ironman was her first half Ironman victory and over legend in the sport Jo Lawn in a sprint finish. She also placed 2nd at Ironman NZ in the same year for her first Podium in an Ironman event.
Kate spends the northern summer in Idaho as a base to compete in the numerous US races.
