Cameron Brown takes out race 2 of the contact NZ Tri series

Well I started the year off in winning form taking out race 2 of the Contact Energy New Zealand Triathlon series.

The race takes place in Whangamata, a beautiful beach resort on the east coast of New Zealand. Lucky I only had to bike 2mins down the road to the race start as my wife's parents live here.

The 2 lap 1.5km swim had some great waves to body surf on, I came out 90seconds down on former World aquathon world Champion Brent Foster and tried to quickly make inroads into his and under 23 athlete Edward Rawles lead. I caught Foster at the 5km mark but did'nt catch Rawles until 30km into the 40km ride, from then on I tried to establish a lead onto the run and came of the bike with a 45sec lead.

The three lap run was half on the road and half on the beach, most of that was on hard packed sand but the last 300m of each lap had some soft sand running so the calfs got a…

Kate Bevilaqua WA Ironman Champion!

Kate Bevilaqua rides selle SMP to victory at Ironman WA

Kate Bevilaqua proved her strength of mind and spirit with her gutsy win in the WA Ironman.

The 32-year-old from Perth stumbled down the finish chute clutching crowd barriers for support, before collapsing unconscious on the finish line after nine hours, 19 minutes on the race course.

Bevilaqua scored her first Ironman win, beating race favourite Rebekah Keat by less than three minutes after a back-and-forth tussle throughout the run.

She had to overcome an eight-minute deficit after the swim, but a strong bike leg put her 100 metres in front of Keat at the second transition.

The pair ran within sight of each other for most of the marathon, but Bevilaqua eventually pulled away and was able to maintain the lead, despite running out of energy in the final kilometres.

“I didn’t think I was going to make it; I had no feeling from the waist down,” she said.

“The thought of the finish line (kept…

SMP shines in the snow of Asiago!

Riders depart in the snow

Riders depart in the snow

It was the very surreal scenery, the unique and suggestive one and in the magic context as well.

The 7th trial of the 31st Triveneto Trophy was wanted and organized by the consultant of the SMP Saddles Enrico Polo, and supported by the Paduan company of Franco and Maurizio Schiavon brothers.

At Asiago (Vicenza), when the ground is white with snow you will usually find that Alpine or Nordic skiing is practiced there. This time, thanks to the stage of Triveneto Trophy, the bicycles turned out to be the unusual protagonists.

Evan for specialists it wasn’t at all easy to proceed with prudence and to control the bicycles while cycling on the spectacular course of Millepini Park, which was the host to the Giro d’Italia of cyclocross two years ago, with half meter of snow and purely white snowflakes falling down during the entire day.

The winner of the day was Gabriele Mercante from Friuli who…
